Music Production Lab
Songwriting · Music Production · Mixing
Make the song sound like it feels.
From the first idea to the final mix, the goal is the strongest possible version of the song — one that feels convincing and connects with the listener.
Philosophy
The final sound starts long before the mix.
A song is shaped by writing, melody, harmony, arrangement, performance, instrumentation, production and sound. I work across those boundaries when the music calls for it.
Sometimes the right decision is an EQ move. Sometimes it is a stronger melody, a different sound, a shorter section, another arrangement or a completely different production approach.
The tools are secondary to the result. The goal is to find the strongest possible version of the song — and make it reach the listener.
Work
Original music and selected work across songwriting, production, performance, recording and mixing.

Original cinematic alternative rock written and composed by Chixi Stone & Jay G, developed from acoustic demos into dark, melodic productions with powerful male–female vocals and a subtle trip-hop undercurrent.

Original Northern rock songs developed from my own writing and demos, with the final arrangements shaped together with the band and developed through multi-instrument performance and production.

My professional background includes recording, editing and mixing album productions as well as working in professional recording environments. Some releases I worked on at Fantom Studio and Sound Supreme entered the Official Finnish Albums Chart.
Songwriting & Song Development
I can work with anything from an initial idea to an existing demo or nearly finished song, helping identify what already works and what could make the song stronger.
Lyrics, melodies, harmony and musical ideas developed into complete songs.
Developing material together from a lyric, concept, melody, chord progression, riff or other starting point.
Developing memorable ideas that remain natural to the character and emotion of the song.
Verses, choruses, bridges, transitions, pacing, instrumentation and the overall dramatic shape of the song.
Taking an existing song or demo and identifying what is already strong, what may be holding it back and what could improve it.
An independent musical perspective before committing further time and resources to production.
The obvious chord in exactly the right place is more valuable than an unusual chord in the wrong one.
Discuss a songMusic Production
Music production is where songwriting, arrangement, performance, instrumentation, sound and technology become one musical experience. The workflow can change from project to project. What matters is whether the result works for the song.
Instrumentation, arrangement, dynamics, transitions, textures and overall production direction.
Developing an acoustic sketch, rough recording, MIDI arrangement, home demo or partially finished track toward a complete production.
Guitar and bass production, additional instrument parts, keyboards, virtual instruments, MIDI production, tone development, re-amping and sound selection.
Comping, timing, tuning where appropriate, cleanup and detailed editing.
Additional instruments, harmonies, textures, electronic elements, drum reinforcement and supporting production details.
Alternative interpretations ranging from subtle production changes to substantial rearrangements and sonic reworks.
The first workable version is not necessarily the best one. I use iteration, critical comparison and both traditional and modern production methods to explore alternatives when they can improve the music.
Discuss a productionMixing
Mixing is where the musical and production decisions have to come together as a convincing whole.
I focus on balance, dynamics, tonal clarity, depth, impact and translation — while recognising when the real solution lies in the arrangement, instrumentation, performance or production rather than another processor.
The question is not how much can be done to a track. It is what the track actually needs.
SoundFreak originally operated as an online music production and mixing service, working remotely with clients on recording, editing and mixing projects. The same remote workflow is well suited to current projects.
Studio
My current studio is centred around Amphion Two18 monitors and a recording and monitoring system developed for songwriting, production, recording, mixing and critical evaluation.

Professional studio development, basic acoustic measurement and the Schaissetone reference loudspeaker project developed at Tampere University of Applied Sciences with Teemu Kinnunen / Mojo Lab.

Original music, lyrics, arrangements and co-writing, developed from initial ideas and demos into finished productions.
Around 300 live performances as a musician.
Pro audio sales, monitoring technology and customer-focused technical solutions.
Professional studio environments, technical development, maintenance and basic acoustic measurement.
Online editing and mixing workflows with clients in Finland.
Reference loudspeaker development, driver selection, measurement, tuning and critical listening.
I started recording on an analogue four-track machine in the early 1990s. Today's production methods are radically different.
The tools have changed. The standard has not: does it make the music work?
About
I am a Finnish musician, songwriter, recording and mixing engineer with more than three decades of practical experience in music and audio.
I started playing music in 1990 and recording and mixing in 1993. Since then my work has expanded across songwriting, music production, professional recording studios, studio development and pro audio, as well as digital services, web technologies and emerging technology.
I hold bachelor's degrees in Digital Sound and Music Business (BCA) and Media Engineering (BEng). My mixing thesis, The Professional's Methods in Mixing Rock and Metal Music, received the highest grade and was later used as teaching material at Tampere University of Applied Sciences.
Today my work combines songwriting, production, mixing and modern production technologies with one consistent objective: finding the version of a song that works best musically, sonically and emotionally.
